Becoming an MMSP/MSF Certified RiderCoach

RiderCoaches are trained based on instructor staffing needs statewide. There is usually only one Missouri Motorcycle Safety Program RiderCoach Preparatory (RCP) class per year. On average 50 to 70 applicants are competing for 12 seats in a class. Because of the competitive nature of the application process, applicants are required to provide a Sponsorship Letter from an existing MMSP-Authorized Training Site. A list of sites is available on this website. Sponsorship requires that an individual demonstrate proficiency, reliability, commitment and ethics commensurate with the standards set by the Missouri Motorcycle Safety Program and the training site.

Most sites require anyone seeking sponsorship to first serve as a “Range Aide”. Range Aide duties may be paid or unpaid depending on the training site. “Range Aides” assist Certified RiderCoaches in preparing the range for class, setting up range exercises and other non-instructional duties. Familiarization with exercises, path of travel for each exercise, and observing instructors demonstrating exercises and techniques are all integral parts of the development of an applicant.

For information on becoming a Range Aide contact your nearest MMSP training site.

Additional information about the RiderCoach Course

The MMSP uses the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s (MSF) RiderCoach Preparation (RCP) curriculum and is taught by MSF certified RiderCoach Trainers.  Successful graduates receive a national certification through the MSF, as well as MMSP authorization through the MMSP.  This certifies graduates to conduct the Basic RiderCourse (BRC) and Experienced RiderCourse, now called the “BRC 2”.
